What new gutters cost for your house

Two taps: the material and roughly how many metres of gutter. The answer is a published Irish rate times your metres.

Published rate × your metres

€1,000 to €1,300

20 m at Munster Gutters's published €50 to €65 a metre, supplied and fitted (VAT not stated). Our multiplication, not a quote. For a typical semi of about 20 m, Munster Gutters publishes €1,000 to €1,400 as a job.

  • Scaffold or a tower, where it's needed, is priced on top (Munster Gutters, Cork: gutter installation and replacement).
  • Downpipes are usually in the job. A separate downpipe repair or replacement is published at €120 to €380 a pipe, ex VAT (Recommended Roofing, gutter cost guide 2026).
  • Repair and maintenance of a house is at the 13.5% VAT rate (Revenue, VAT on construction services (reviewed Aug 2026)). Ask whether the written price includes it.

How this is worked out

The metres you pick, times one Irish company's published supply-and-fit rate per metre for that material: Munster Gutters for uPVC and aluminium, Recommended Roofing for cast iron. The multiplication is ours. Rates read on 1 November 2026. Metre labels are rough guides, not measurements: count the gutter runs on your own house if you can. It's an estimate, never a quote.

When to replace

Signs the gutters have had it

  • Joints leaking in several places, and seals that fail again after they're redone.
  • A sagging run that holds water along its length, even after extra brackets.
  • Plastic gone brittle, faded or cracked, or cast iron rusted through.
  • Overflowing in heavy rain when the gutter is clean: too small for the roof, or not enough outlets.
  • Soft fascia behind it, so the brackets have nothing solid to hold. Then the boards go too.

One leaking joint or a dropped bracket is a repair, published from €80 to €200 (SA Roofing, gutter replacement cost, 5 Oct 2026). When most of the run is failing, replacement costs less over the years. Repair or replace? goes through it.

FAQ

Questions people ask

How much does gutter replacement cost in Ireland?

Munster Gutters in Cork publishes €1,000 to €1,400 to replace the gutters on a typical semi of about 20 m in uPVC, €1,300 to €1,800 in aluminium and €2,100 to €2,800 in cast iron (Munster Gutters, Cork: gutter installation and replacement). Recommended Roofing publishes €950 to €1,900 ex VAT for new uPVC gutters on a 3-bed semi (Recommended Roofing, gutter cost guide 2026). The cost guide has every figure.

How much is guttering per metre?

Installed, Munster Gutters gives €50 to €90 a metre across Munster: €50 to €65 for standard uPVC and €65 to €75 for aluminium (Munster Gutters, Cork: gutter installation and replacement). Recommended Roofing's figure for cast iron ogee is €90 to €160 a metre ex VAT (Recommended Roofing, gutter cost guide 2026).

How long does it take to replace gutters?

"A typical house is usually a one-day job once access is set up", according to Munster Gutters (Munster Gutters, Cork: gutter installation and replacement). Gutters with new fascia and soffit take longer. See how long it takes.

Are you a gutter company?

No. Gutter Replacement is an introduction service run by Bartlomiej Standa, trading as Elevate Ireland. We pass your request to one gutter company that covers your county. They look at the house, price it in writing and deal with you directly.

Do you cover Dublin?

Dublin has its own site: guttersdublin.ie, with Dublin firms' prices and pages for each council area. Requests from Dublin sent here are passed on too.

Do I need planning permission for new gutters?

Not on an ordinary house. Maintenance or improvement that doesn't materially change how the house looks is exempted development under section 4(1)(h) of the Planning and Development Act 2000 (Planning and Development Act 2000, section 4). On a protected structure, talk to the council first: see cast iron gutters.

Is there a grant for new gutters?

Not for an ordinary house. For a protected structure or a building in an Architectural Conservation Area, the Built Heritage Investment Scheme gives grants of €2,500 to €50,000 through the local council (Department of Housing, Built Heritage Investment Scheme), and repairs to cast iron rainwater goods can qualify (BHIS 2027 qualifying works).
